OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE DOH- CENTRAL VISAYAS ON THE REPORTS OF ATTACKS AGAINST OUR HEALTH WORKERS
30 March 2020
The Department of Health - Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) condemns the recent reports of attacks against our health workers in line with Coronavirus Disease 2019 – (COVID-19) response.
In our region, particularly, there were reports of a nurse splashed with chlorine unprovoked, of health workers unjustifiably refused duly-sanctioned public transport, as well as of medical professionals forcibly ejected from their residences by their landlords.
We will not tolerate these actions that are blatantly and unfairly discriminatory against health workers and even authorized personnel who come in close contact with COVID-19 patients in line with their respective functions.
That being said, we support the proactive steps taken by our partners in the Local Government Units, the Philippine National Police and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to guarantee the safety and welfare of our health workers and frontliners.
Worth reiterating is that we have sufficient containment protocols around the patients who tested positive for COVID-19. Such protocols include mechanisms to ensure infection prevention and control.
