Official Statement of the DOH CVCHD on the New Confirmed Case of COVID-19 in the Region
DOHCVCHD Official Statement / 18 March 2020
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development on 4:00 pm 18 March 2020 has received information on the additional confirmed case of COVID-19.
Patient 188 is a 65-year-old male currently admitted in a private hospital in Mandaue City. He is currently stable and is improving based on the latest health bulletin from the hospital. This new case has brought the total of confirmed cases in the region to three (3) with one mortality and one recovered. We currently are in coordination with the health team handling the patient and we will be following the protocol for discharging COVID-19 patients once warranted. The Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (RESU) will be following further validation of the case and his contacts.
We encourage the public not to panic. To fear is normal but we can fight this virus by remaining calm and following preventive measures being implemented by local authorities. We request our fellow citizens to be patient in the expected disruptions in their daily routine brought about by these measures. Let us all remember that the preventive measures are only effective if we ALL follow them.
We further remind the public to refrain from sharing unverified and unvalidated information. National laws and local ordinances are in place to guard the public against fake news that aims to sow panic and confusion.

On 25 February 2020, a flight carrying 26 South Koreans landed in Cebu. They were processed by the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) and were cleared. All international flights are all screened for elevation in body temperature via the thermal scan in the arrival gate. Their health declaration checklist were collected.
The following day, 26 February, a limited travel ban on North Gyeongsang Province and the City of Daegu was announced by the Inter-agency Taskforce for Emerging Infectious Diseases. Although the 26 travelers arrived before the travel ban, their health declaration cards were retrieved. As per order from DOH Central Office, the travelers were contacted and advised to undergo self-quarantine for 14-days.
The DOH Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD) compiled a list of hotels based on the information from the health declaration checklist. The purpose of the compilation was to validate the information retrieved. It was not for public release since it is unvalidated information. It is a matter of policy by this office not to divulge names of persons, institutions and agency unless warranted by special circumstances.
The hotels and resorts in Central Visayas have been coordinating with local health authorities and concerned government agencies to ensure their guests are safe and have established isolation and referral procedures for guests that may need medical attention.
