DOH joins Public Health Dentists’ Convention
The Department of Health National Association of Dentists (DHNAD) held its 52nd Annual Convention & Scientific Meeting at the Bayfront Hotel, Cebu Citylast March 7 to 9, 2017 with the theme “Quality Preventive Dental Health Programs through Unity and Reform on Philippine Dentistry towards Excellence”. The goal of the said annual convention was to strengthen government health services and to come up with excellent dental programs.
DOH Assistant Secretary Eric Tayag,keynote speaker of the event, highlighted the Philippine Health Agenda’s A.C.H.I.E.V.E. strategy: Advance primary care and quality; Cover all Filipinos against financial health risk; Harness power of strategic human resource; Invest in eHealth and data for decision-making; Enforce standards, accountability, and transparency; Value clients and patients; and Elicit multi-sector, multi-stakeholder support for health. AsecTayagthen showcased his eminent dance moves after his speech.
Dr. Edwina Go, Regional Dental Coordinator of DOH – RO IV-A, had a lecture on the Public Health Today and Tomorrow. She emphasized the integration of DOH Oral Health Program on “PinggangPinoy”, a food guide developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in collaboration with the DOH, World Health Organization (WHO), and National Nutrition Council (NNC). It uses a food plate model to convey the right food group proportions on a per-meal basis to meet the body's energy and nutrient. It also serves as a visual tool to help Filipinos adopt healthy eating habits at meal times by delivering effective dietary and healthy lifestyle.

Department of Health Regional Office 7 hosts 5th Stakeholders’ Forum on NTD
The Department of Health Regional Office VII has successfully hosted the recently concluded 5th Stakeholders’ Forum on the Control and Elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases last February 22to 23, 2017 held at Bayfront Hotel, Cebu City with the theme “Evidence-Based Technologies to Accelerate the Gains of NTD Elimination, A New Hope”.
Representatives from government agencies and stakeholders from different sectors gathered for a forum to update and share coordinative efforts and resources for integrated control and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
The forum was spearheaded by the Department of Health -Disease Prevention and Control Bureau, in cooperation with DOH Regional Office 7. It was graced by the Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial, DOH Regional Staff and Multi Stakeholders Partners. The undertaking has paved way to leverage development initiatives and opportunities by enabling collaborative innovation and strategy for control and elimination of NTDs.
Giving his welcome message, DOH RO-VII Director, Dir. Jaime S. Bernadas stressed the importance of forging strong bonds among partners for better health outcomes towards the battle cry of the Philippine Health Agenda dubbed as “All for Health towards Health for All”.
