SIXTY THREE (63) NEW COVID-19 CASES IN CENTRAL VISAYAS, TOTAL CASES NOW AT FOUR HUNDRED FIFTY- EIGHT (458). TOTAL DEATHS REMAIN AT TEN (10)
25 APRIL 2020
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released, as of 5:00 pm today, one hundred twenty four (124) test results of which there are sixty-three (63) positive results. Total confirmed cases in the region now at four hundred fifty-eight (458). Number of reported deaths remains at ten (10).
Yesterday, the total cases in Cebu City was recorded at three hundred fifty (350). However, it was found out that the Cebu City Health Department personnel, who collected the swab samples, tagged it according to the patient’s information and labelled a sample with another family name of a previously confirmed case. This patient was already recorded in the regional data but due to the different name tagged in the repeat test, he was recorded twice. We have already adjusted the numbers attributed to Cebu City after validating and cross checking if the person recorded yesterday and the one claimed to be him previously are one and the same. The official total number of cases for 24 April 2020 for Cebu City is at three hundred forty-eight (348). The DOH CVCHD is heavily dependent on the data collected by our local health authorities, and as such, any errors that may come to their attention that may affect our number of cases are being relayed to us for appropriate correction.
All the new sixty three (63) cases are from Cebu City, all of whom are from the contact tracing activities conducted at the BJMP Cebu City Jail. The total cases in the city is now at four hundred-eleven (411). Lapu-Lapu City’s cases are still twenty-eight (28). Mandaue City’s cases also are still at eleven (11). OFFICIAL STATEMENT NO. 27
ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-THREE (143) NEW COVID-19 CASES IN CENTRAL VISAYAS, TOTAL CASES AT THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY-FIVE (345). ONE (1) ADDITIONAL DEATH; TOTAL DEATHS NOW AT TEN (10)
22 APRIL 2020
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released, as of 5:00pm today, four hundred forty-two (442) test results, out of which there are one hundred forty-three (143) positive results. The total confirmed cases in the region are now three hundred forty-five (345). There is (1) additional reported death, regional deaths increased to ten (10).
The additional mortality is a 70-year-old male resident of Mandaue City and is the first mortality of the city. He expired due to severe acute respiratory disease due to COVID-19 pneumonia. He also has existing medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The newborn tested and reported to be positive yesterday has undergone a repeat test and has now been confirmed to be negative. The short span of time from birth and the supposed infection to viral clearance with the negative result can be attributed to a false positive reading. There are a lot of factors that could have caused a false reading; however, the VSMMC SNL has strict protocols to prevent such events. Results that are doubtful due to certain events should undergo repeat testing for validation. However, in the drive to be transparent and provide the latest information, the result was recorded and released pending the repeat tests. We assure the public that this is an isolated event. We are therefore removing this case from the official tally of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases. The confirmed positive for 21 April 2020 is only eleven (11) and the total confirmed regionwide is two hundred two (202).
Today, there are one hundred and thirty-eight (138) additional cases from Cebu City of which one hundred twenty-three (123) are from BJMP Cebu City Jail while the fifteen (15) are residents of Cebu City. The total cases in the city are now at three hundred ten (310). Lapu-Lapu City also has five (5) new cases bringing the total to eighteen (18) while Mandaue City cases remain at nine (9).
