22 APRIL 2020
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released, as of 5:00pm today, four hundred forty-two (442) test results, out of which there are one hundred forty-three (143) positive results. The additional mortality is a 70-year-old male resident of Mandaue City and is the first mortality of the city. He expired due to severe acute respiratory disease due to COVID-19 pneumonia. He also has existing medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
The newborn tested and reported to be positive yesterday has undergone a repeat test and has now been confirmed to be negative. The short span of time from birth and the supposed infection to viral clearance with the negative result can be attributed to a false positive reading. There are a lot of factors that could have caused a false reading; however, the VSMMC SNL has strict protocols to prevent such events. Results that are doubtful due to certain events should undergo repeat testing for validation. However, in the drive to be transparent and provide the latest information, the result was recorded and released pending the repeat tests. We assure the public that this is an isolated event. We are therefore removing this case from the official tally of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases. The confirmed positive for 21 April 2020 is only eleven (11) and the total confirmed regionwide is two hundred two (202).
