THE 05 NEW CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES BRINGING THE TOTAL CASES TO 30 AND 01 MORTALITY WITH THE TOTAL DEATHS OF 5 IN CENTRAL VISAYAS

The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released as of 5:00pm today, 86 test results. Seven (7) specimens tested positive for COVID-19, the remaining 79 tested negative. Two (2) of the positive tests were repeat of old confirmed cases, five (5) are new individuals added to the total confirmed cases.
Cebu City has two (2) additional confirmed cases, bringing the total cases in the city to twenty (20). Negros Oriental also has two (2) additional cases, bringing its total to four (4). Cebu Province has one (1) additional case bringing the cases in the province to two (2). One (1) confirmed case succumbed to the infection. CV 25-CC died around 6:00 pm on 28 March 2020. We are still waiting for the details of this new mortality.
The provinces of Bohol and Siquijor and the highly urbanized cities of Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue have no additional cases.
As of today, there are a total of 30 COVID-19 Cases in Central Visayas. VSMMC SNL has tested 357 specimens from both private and public health facilities in the region.

ON THE 03 ADDITIONAL CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES
BRINGING THE TOTAL CASES IN REGION VII TO 25
As of 28 March 2020
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released 43 test results today as of 5pm. Of the results, 3 were tested positive for COVID-19, the remaining 40 tests are negative. Two (2) of the new cases come from Cebu City and one (1) from Lapu-Lapu City. The new cases are currently admitted and stable. No new deaths recorded today.
As of 28 March 2020, a total of 25 COVID-19 Cases in Central Visayas.
The reports by DOH CVCHD are based on number of persons tested, while the reports issued by VSMMC SNL (Sub National Laboratory) are based on the number of test conducted. One person can undergo more than one test if warranted. In the four days that VSMMC SNL has been operational, there have been a total of 272 tests, with 250 negative results and 22 individuals confirmed positive.

The Department of Health - Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CVCHD) is one with Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in taking actions to respond to the illegal posting in social media by a certain ROMMEL ROSITO.
The said post in social media by Mr. Rosito, who is not an employee of the Department of Health nor a duly-authorized individual, contains unverified and unvalidated information, which has the propensity to endanger public safety and security.
We condemn the irresponsible and reckless act made by Mr. Rosito. Such actions shall not be tolerated as we are in the process of filing the appropriate criminal charges against him for violations of the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act, the Data Privacy Law, the Bayanihan To Heal as One Act, the Revised Penal Code, all in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Law.
We take this opportunity to remind the public to use social media platforms responsibly and to rely only on official sources such as the Department of Health and the World Health Organization.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE 19 NEW CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASES IN REGION VII
As of 27 March 2020, 5pm
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) has designated and capacitated the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) as the Sub-national Laboratory (SNL) for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases in the Visayas. As of 27 March 2020, VSMMC SNL has been granted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), the national reference laboratory (NRL), the authority to release official results after passing the validation requirement set by RITM. With this, the DOH CVCHD officially releases the number of confirmed cases that have been tested by VSMMC SNL.
Of the 229 individuals tested, there were 19 who tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total confirmed cases in the region to 22. There were also 3 additional mortality from those who were confirmed positive. All of them had pre-existing medical conditions and are more than 60 years old. All of the new cases are currently admitted and as of the last health bulletin from their hospitals, majority are stable with one currently in critical care. Of the new cases the youngest is at 27 years old and the oldest is at 72 . Twelve (63%) are aged 60 years old and above.
The spike in the number of cases is expected when an additional laboratory becomes operational. With the increase in testing capacity of VSMMC SNL, we also expect an increase in the numbers of cases in the coming days. We ask the public not to panic as containment measures have already been in place in coordination with the respective local government units (LGU) and the local police of the confirmed cases. Contact tracing of the close contacts is ongoing, conducted by the local health workers with the assistance of local law enforcement personnel. We ask those who will be contacted to cooperate and follow the instructions of local government personnel to minimize if not eliminate the risk of further spread of the virus. We call upon the communities that may be the residence of confirmed cases to not be panic and be violent against their contacts and their household. In this time of crisis, we need to practice sobriety to ensure that our collective welfare and safety.

Official Statement of the DOH CVCHD on the New Confirmed Case of COVID-19 in the Region
DOHCVCHD Official Statement / 18 March 2020
The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development on 4:00 pm 18 March 2020 has received information on the additional confirmed case of COVID-19.
Patient 188 is a 65-year-old male currently admitted in a private hospital in Mandaue City. He is currently stable and is improving based on the latest health bulletin from the hospital. This new case has brought the total of confirmed cases in the region to three (3) with one mortality and one recovered. We currently are in coordination with the health team handling the patient and we will be following the protocol for discharging COVID-19 patients once warranted. The Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (RESU) will be following further validation of the case and his contacts.
We encourage the public not to panic. To fear is normal but we can fight this virus by remaining calm and following preventive measures being implemented by local authorities. We request our fellow citizens to be patient in the expected disruptions in their daily routine brought about by these measures. Let us all remember that the preventive measures are only effective if we ALL follow them.
We further remind the public to refrain from sharing unverified and unvalidated information. National laws and local ordinances are in place to guard the public against fake news that aims to sow panic and confusion.
