FIFTY-SIX (56) NEW COVID-19 CASES IN CENTRAL VISAYAS, TOTAL CASES AT ONE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED EIGHTY-FIVE (1,685). RECORDED DEATHS INCREASE TO TWENTY-THREE (23).

The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released as of 5:00 pm on 9 May 2020, five hundred thirty-nine (539) test results with fifty-eight (58) positive results, of which there are two (2) repeat tests of previously confirmed cases. No tests were done at the DOH CVCHD - operated Cebu Tb Reference Laboratory Molecular Facility for COVID-19 Testing (CTRL-MFCT). Operations will resume on Monday, May 11, 2020.
The fifty-six (56) positive cases from VSMMC-SNL has increased the total COVID-19 cases in Central Visayas to one thousand six hundred eighty-five (1,685). The new positive cases are from Cebu City (39), Cebu province (1), Mandaue City Jail (15) and among the repatriates on quarantine (1).
There are four (4) additional deaths recorded in the region today, three (3) from Cebu City and one (1) from Cebu Province. All of them died of severe pneumonia due to COVID 19 and had underlying medical conditions. The first mortality is a thirty-five (35) year-old male who had recurrent history of electrolyte imbalance. The second and the third reported deaths are persons deprived of liberty (PDL) from the Cebu City Jail Male Dormitory. The second death is a thirty-two (32) year-old male who was immune compromised while the third death is a fifty-one (51) year-old male who had chronic kidney disease. The fourth recorded death who was from Cebu Province is a thirty-nine (39) year-old male who was hypertensive and had a massive stroke.

The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released as of 5:00 pm on 8 May 2020, two hundred nine (209) test results. There was a of total twenty seven (27) positive results, nine (9) of which were the repeat tests of previously confirmed cases.
The DOH CVCHD operated Cebu Tb Reference Laboratory Molecular Facility for COVID-19 Testing (CTRL-MFCT) has released forty-one (41) test results, all of which were negative for COVID-19.
The eighteen (18) positive cases for VSMMC-SNL has increased the total COVID-19 cases in Central Visayas to one thousand six hundred twenty-nine (1,629). Fifteen (15) of these cases are from Cebu City while the remaining three (3) are from Cebu province.
There were additional twelve (12) previously confirmed positive cases who are now laboratory negative. Nine (9) of them are from Lapu-Lapu City, which now has a total laboratory negative of fifteen (15). The other three (3) are from Cebu City which bring its total laboratory negative to twenty-one (21). The region now has a total of forty-three (43) laboratory negative cases who were previously positive for COVID-19.
The additional confirmed cases slightly decreased the case fatality rate or the percentage of deaths among those who are infected with COVID-19, from 1.18% to 1.17%. It is still lower compared to the global average of 6.4%.

The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released as of 5:00pm on 6 May 2020, five hundred twenty (520) test results, of which one hundred twenty two (122) are positive results, with three (3) being repeat tests of previously confirmed cases. This brings the total confirmed cases in the region to one thousand five hundred seventy nine (1,579). The region hast two (2) additional laboratory negatives from previously confirmed cases, bringing the total laboratory negative cases in the region to thirty one (31). The deaths on 6 May 2020 increased by one (1); total deaths from those infected with COVID-19 now at eighteen (18).
One hundred five (105) of the new cases are from the contact tracing activities done in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City and the other three (3) are from other barangays of Cebu City which now registers one thousand three hundred eighty five (1,385) cases. Majority of the cases in the city are clustered in only four barangays while the three hundred thirty five (335) cases are from BJMP Cebu City Jail. The city of Lapu-Lapu has an additional one (1) COVID-19 case. The city now has forty one (41) confirmed cases.
There are also three (3) new case from Mandaue City which now has ninety three (93) cases. The city also recorded the death of one (1) of the newly confirmed cases. The mortality is a forty-eight (48) year-old male who was admitted and died on the same day of the admission. We are awaiting for the official cause of death from the hospital where he was admitted. We join his family in praying for his eternal rest.

The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released as of 5:00 pm on 7 May 2020, four hundred fifty-two (452) test results, thirty-three (33) of which are positive including three (3) repeat tests of previously confirmed cases.
The DOH CVCHD has started the operations of Cebu Tb Reference Laboratory Molecular Facility for COVID-19 Testing (CTRL-MFCT) testing some of the specimens sent to the Regional Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (RESU). It has released forty-four (44) test results, three (3) of which are positive which includes one (1) repeat test of a previously confirmed case.
The new thirty (30) positive cases from VSMMC-SNL and the two (2) positive cases from the CTRL-MFCT have increased the total COVID-19 cases in Central Visayas to one thousand six hundred eleven (1,611).
One (1) additional death has been recorded for 7 May 2020. He is a thirty-three (33) year-old male from Cebu City. He was managed due to lung metastases of an underlying cancer. We join his family in praying for his eternal repose. He is the 19th death recorded since the epidemic started in the region.
The additional confirmed cases and deaths have slightly increased the case fatality rate or the percentage of deaths among those who are infected with COVID-19from 1.14% to 1.18%. It is still lower compared to the global average of 6.4%.

The Department of Health Central Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD) through the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center Sub-National Laboratory (VSMMC SNL) has released as of 5:00pm of 5 May 2020, six hundred twelve (612) test results. There is a total of one hundred ninety-three (193) positive results, two (2) of which are repeat tests of previously confirmed cases. This brings the total confirmed cases in the region to one thousand four hundred sixty (1,460). The region had no additional deaths on 5 May 2020; total number of deaths from those infected with COVID-19 remains at seventeen (17).
The one hundred ninety (190) cases are all from Cebu City, one hundred eighty-three (183) cases of whom are from the contact tracing activities done in Barangay Mambaling while the other seven (7) are from another barangay. There is one new case from Mandaue City.
Among the new cases, the youngest case is a two (2) year old female, while the oldest is an eighty five (85) year old female both from Barangay Mambaling.
The additional confirmed cases have further decreased the case fatality rate or the percentage of deaths among those who are infected with COVID-19 from 1.33% to 1.16%. It is very low compared to the global average of 6.4%.
