In observance with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Health Regional Office VII joined this year advocacy campaign in the recently concluded “Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” last 15 October 2016 held at Fuente Osmeña Circle, Cebu City, Cebu.

The campaign activity was participated in by various institutions, agencies, schools and other stakeholders from Metro Cebu. It aimed toboost breast cancer awareness through early detection and preventive screening. The advocacy kicked-off with the unique moon walk passing through the fares of Fuente Osmeña to Plaza Independencia followed by the proper program.
Giving the rationale of the activity Mr. Ronald delos Reyes, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. Program Coordinator highlighted the importance of the campaign message to observe monthly self breast examination for women 20-30 years old, Clinical Breast Exam for ages 30-40 and mammogram advised once every 2 years for 40 years old and above.
According to RAFI Cancer Registry in Cebu a total number of 2,100 cases every year were diagnosed of cancer and 15% of the total number were reported as breast cancer cases.
"The fight for this endeavor should not end in this activity rather the fight must continue within ourselves. And as one, we shall fight breast cancer and early detection is the best protection against this disease.”delos Reyes said.
Furthemore, the said event was organized by RAFI in collaboration with different partaking agencies and tribute to the victims and survivors of breast cancer. (MSD/ICTU/HRA)
