Laboratory Confirmed COVID19 Cases in Central Visayas, January 31-June 13, 2020

A. Epidemiologic Curve

January 31, 2020 a Chinese national tourist was admitted at ACE Medical Center, Bohol. On February 2020, community contact tracing was conducted in Bohol and Negros Oriental. On March 06, 2020, Negros Oriental reported their first confirmed COVID19 case.On March 13, 2020 Cebu City reported their first confirmed COVID19 case. On April 20, 2020 Cebu City Jail, conducted swabbing activities among PDL and jail personnel. Cases peaked on April 30, 2020 when Cebu City Health Office conducted community tracing simultaneous PCR testing (Figure 1). Of the cases detected 1326 (27%) were symptomatic. Currently, there are 3358 (68%) active cases.

B. Distrbution of cases by Cities/ Muncipalities

Data from May 24-June 13, 2020 shows that in Cebu province, Talisay City (61, 35%) has the highest number of cases, followed by Minglanilla (29, 17%), and Consolacion (24, 14%) (Figure 2).

C. Distribution of cases by Highly Urbanized Cities

Report from May 24-June 13, 2020 show that among the highly urbanized cities, Cebu City (1382, 90%) has the highest confirmed cases, followed by Mandaue City (92, 6%), and Lapu - Lapu City (70, 5%) (Figure 3).

D. Distribution of cases by Age Group and Sex

Majority (2940, 58%) of the cases were Males. Age ranged from less than 1 year old to 101 year old, (median=35 year old) and the most (1209, 24%) affected age group is 21-30 years old.

E. Distribution of Confirmed COVID19 cases in jails

Cebu City Jail has 459 (63)%) confirmed cases, Mandaue City Jail has 223 (31%) confirmed cases, and Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation (CPDRC) has 45 (6%) confirmed cases (Figure 5).

F. Newly confirmed COVID19 Cases

As of June 13, 2020, there were a total of 173 newly confirmed cases. One hundred thirty-four (77%) newly confirmed case came from Cebu City and 16 (9%) new confirmed cases came from Mandaue City (Table 1).

G. Status of confirmed COVID19 cases

Two thousand one hundred sixty-six (43%) of the confirmed cases were home isolated, 1251 (25%) were admitted, and 1584 (31%) cases were recovered (Table 2).

H. Classification of Death by Province/HUC

Seventy-four (81%) deaths with co-morbidities and 17 (19%) covid-related deaths were reported. Most deaths with co-moribidities were from Cebu City (38, 42%) and Cebu province (22, 24%) (Figure 6).

I. Infectious Disease by Attack Rate

Among the infectious diseases in Central Visayas, Dengue has the highest number of cases with an attack rate of 1.02% followed by tuberculosis with an attack rate of 0.75% (Table 3.)

J. Proportion of Confirmed COVID19 cases among Health Care Workers

Most (37, 27%) of the confirmed cases of health care workers were nurses, 27 (20%) confirmed cases were general services personnel and 17 (12%) were physicians (Table 4).
