Morbidity Week 27 (June 28-July 04, 2020)

A. Epidemiologic Curve

The first case of COVID-19 in Central Visayas was reported on Morbidity Week (MW) 5. Since then, the region has 9992 reported cases. Of the cases, detected, 3298 (31%) were symptomatic. Currently, there are 6529 (62%) active cases.

B. Distribution of cases by Age Group and Sex

Majority (5766,55%) of the cases were males. Age ranged from less than 1 year old to 101 year old, (Median=36 years old) and the most (2663, 25%) affected age group is 21-30 year old (Figure 2).

C. Week-to-Week Comparison of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases by Cities and Municipalities

There is a fluctuating trend in the number of confirmed cases across the top five cities and municipalities in Cebu province from MW 24-27. This fluctuation in the number of cases could be due to the case investigation and intensive contact tracing campaign of each of the localities (Figure 3).

D. Week-to-Week Comparison of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases by Highly Urbanized Cities

There is noticeable decline in the number of confirmed cases in Cebu City from MW 24-27 while Mandaue City shows consistent increase in the number of confirmed cases in the same period. On the other hand, Lapu-Lapu City shows variation in numbers from MW 24-27 (Figure 4).

E. Distribution of Confirmed COVID19 Cases in Jails

The number of confirmed cases in BJMP-Cebu City peaked on morbidity week 24 and declined on morbidity week 25. On the other hand, confirmed cases in BJMP-LapuLapu City and BJMP-Talisay City peaked on morbidity week 27 (Figure 5).

F.  Growth Change Among the Top 10 Cities and Municipalities

Among the top 10 LGUs, Toledo City has 213% increase in cases, Carcar City has 160% increase in cases, and Bogo City has 100% increase in cases(Table 1). This noticeable increase in the number of cases among the three cities is due to the rigorous contact tracing activities in the community.

G.  Classification of Death by Province/HUC

Two hundred seventy-five (68%) deaths with co-morbidities and 132 (32%0 covid 19 -related deaths were reported. Most deaths with co-morbidities were from Cebu City (161,40%) and Cebu province (72, 18%) (Figure 6).

H Proportion of Confirmed COVID19 Cases Among Health Care Workers

Most (111, 31%) of the confirmed cases of healthcare workers were nurses, 40 (11%) confirmed cases were general services personnel and 34 (10%) were physicians (Table 3.).
