COVID-19 Cases in Central Visayas

A. Epidemiologic Curve
The first case of COVID-19 in Central Visayas was reported on Morbidity Week (MW) 5. Since then, the region has 22,056 reported cases. Cebu City comprises 46.3% (10,213) of the total cases while Cebu province comprises 27.7% (6,114) of the total cases. For MW 43, there were 950 (4%) active cases (Figure 1).

B. Distribution of cases by Age Group and Sex
Majority (11,937 54%) of the cases were males. Age ranged from less than 1 year old to 101 year old, (Median=36 years old) and the most (5881, 27%) affected age group is 21-30 year old (Figure 2).

C. Week-to-Week Comparison of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases by Province

The province of Cebu and Bohol displayed a downward trend in number of cases from MW 40 to MW 43 (Figure 3). The province of Negros Oriental has a 6.7% increase in number of cases from MW 42 to MW 43. Siquijor province has reported five cases of Locally Stranded Individual (LSI) three were from Cebu province, one from Pampanga and one from Rizal.

D. Week-to-Week Comparison of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases by Highly Urbanized Cities

There is a consistent declining trend in the number of cases in Cebu City and Mandaue City from MW 40 to MW 43 (Figure 4). There is a noticeable 141% increase in the number of cases in Lapu-Lapu City from MW 42 to MW 43.

E. Growth Change Among the Cities and Municipalities in Central Visayas

Two-week growth change in the number of cases were noted in Tuburan with 1600% increase in number of cases, followed by Argao with 700% increase in number of cases, San Remegio with 600% increase in number of cases, Balamban and Santa Fe with both 400% increase (Table 1).

F.  Two-Week Average Daily Attack Rate (ADAR) of COVID-19 Cases in Central Visayas

Central Visayas has an average daily attack rate of 4.15. The three highly urbanized cities has an ADAR that falls on the medium range. (Figure 5). The province of Cebu and Bohol has an ADAR of 5.05 and 2.44 respectively while the province of Negros Oriental and Siquijor has low ADAR of 2.18 and 0.99 respectively.

G.  Reproduction Number (Rt)

The reproduction number (Rt) in Central Visayas spiked in the month of April with 7.53 being the highest value recorded (Figure 6). In the month of September, Rt started to decrease below the value of 1. For MW 43, the Rt is 0.01.

H.  Classification of Death by Province/HUC

A total of 1,331 deaths were reported from MW 5-43. Four hundred ninety-nine (37%) were covid 19-related deaths (Figure 7). Most deaths with co-morbidities were from Cebu City (442, 33%) and Cebu province (218,16%).

I.  Leading Comorbidities Among COVID-19 Deaths

Lifestyle related chronic diseases are the leading comorbidities among COVID-19 deaths. Cardiovascular disease (437) ranks first followed by, chronic kidney disease (293) and diabetes mellitus (244) [Figure 8].

J.  Distribution of Recoveries with Case Doubling Time by Province/City

From Morbidity Week 6-43, Central Visayas has a total of 19,739 recoveries reported with case doubling time (CDT) of 18.92. Cebu province has reported 3,427 recoveries with CDT of 18.35 while Cebu City has reported 9,309 recoveries with 18.92 CDT (Table 2).

K.  Distribution of Individual Tested by Province/City

The number of individual tested in four provinces and in highly urbanized cities were 269,297 (Table 3) from MW 5-43 with percent positive rate of 8.1. It should be noted that special population like Localized Stranded Individual (LSI), Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), and healthcare worker (HCW) were not included in this data.
