1st DOH Mental Health Fair 2018: Shedding Positive Light on Mental Health
In observance to the 2018 National Mental Health Week, the Department of Health Center for Health Development VII conducted the 1st DOH Mental Health Fair 2018 at Grand Convention Center Cebu, Archbishop Avenue, Cebu City last 10 October 2018. Around 400 students from all ages and grade participated in the culmination activity. The observance aimed to intensify education, advocacy and awareness on mental health issues especially among young vulnerable people. This year’s theme is “Katatagan ng Nagbabagong Mundo: Kabataang Pinoy Usap Tayo.”
In attendance during the event were Department of Health Central Office, Chief of Non-Communicable Diseases Section Program, Dr. Rodolfo Antonio Albornoz; Department of Education Regional Office, Dir. Juliet Jureta; DOH Center for Health Development VII Local Health Support Division Chief, Dr. Jonathan Neil Erasmo; DOH CHD-VII, Head of Non-Communicable Diseases Section, Dr. Dino Caing and representatives from different government agencies and other advocate partners i.e. Wellbeing Cluster, Tawag Paglaum of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Coalition for Better Education, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Mental Health Association Incorporated and We Mind Incorporated.

29th National Statistics Month: Celebration towards Sustainable Tourism Development
In observance to the National Statistics Month, the Department of Health Center for Health Development VII joined this year’s theme “Exploring Philippines Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development.” The 29th National Statistic Month was spearheaded by Philippine Statistic Authority and hosted by the Department of Tourism Regional Office held in Dalaguete Complex, Dalaguete, Cebu last 01 October 2018.
In attendance during the opening ceremony were Chairman, Regional Statistics Committee, Dir. Efren Carreon; Vice-chair, Regional Statistics Committee, Dir. Ariel Florendo; Department of Tourism Regional Office, Chief of Staff, Judilyn S. Quiachon, Mayor of Dalaguete, Honorable Ronald Allan Gesalan Cesante and other participating government agencies in Central Visayas like, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Department of Health, the Department of Agriculture, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of the Interior and Local Government Unit, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other stakeholder partners.
Through PSA Memorandum Circular No. 2018-01, all agencies of the government, local government units, academic institutions, state universities and colleges, and private sector at the national and subnational levels are enjoined to actively participate in and support to the 29th National Statistics month celebration for the Month of October.

The Big Latch On 2018: Connecting Breastfeeding Community
In line with the celebration of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month, the Department of Health Regional Office VII supported this year’s global celebration tagged as “The Big Latch On 2018” held at Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu last 04 August 2018.
Adapting the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action theme, "Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life", the National Breastfeeding Awareness Month theme is "Pagpapasuso'y Pundasyon para sa Malusog at Mahabang Buhay ng Ina at Sanggol." The observance aimed to raise public awareness on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding as a foundation of lifelong good health for babies and mother.
Locally, the global movement is spearheaded by the Philippine Pediatric Society of Cebu Chapter partnered with multi-stakeholder network of breastfeeding support administration. The said event is annually held to spread awareness on the health benefits of breastfeeding and to promote community support for breastfeeding mothers.
Over 1,000 mothers participated in and breastfed simultaneously for a minute. Apart from SM Seaside City, Cebu other site locations for the event were stationed in Saint Anthony Mother and Child Hospital, Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City; SM Hypermarket, Mandaue City; Pueblo Verde Mepz II, Basak, Lapu-Lapu City and Island City Mall, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
